iPhone Air wallpaper size: 1260 × 2736 and the files that fit
An iPhone Air wallpaper should be 1260 × 2736 pixels, held upright. That is the exact resolution of its 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR screen, so a picture at this size fills the display pixel for pixel, with nothing zoomed or cut off. Every iPhone wallpaper on this site comes in that size.
- 1260 × 2736Wallpaper size in pixels, portrait
- 6.5-inchOLED screen, 6.55 inches measured as a rectangle
- 460 ppiThe same pixel density as iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max
- 3.45 millionPixels on screen, about 9% more than iPhone 18 Pro
How iPhone Air compares with other iPhones
Apple's App Store screenshot specifications put iPhone Air in its large-display group of iPhones with the Dynamic Island, next to iPhone 18 Pro Max, 17 Pro Max, 16 Pro Max, 16 Plus, 15 Pro Max, 15 Plus and 14 Pro Max. That group covers three screen resolutions: 1260 × 2736, 1290 × 2796 and 1320 × 2868. iPhone Air has the narrowest of them.
In pixels it sits between the two iPhone 18 Pro models. It is 54 pixels wider and 114 taller than the 1206 × 2622 screen of iPhone 18 Pro, and 60 pixels narrower and 132 shorter than the 1320 × 2868 screen of iPhone 18 Pro Max. All of these screens are almost exactly the same shape, about 2.17 times as tall as they are wide, which Apple describes as 19.5:9.
All three also have the same pixel density, 460 pixels per inch, so the extra pixels are extra screen rather than finer detail: iPhone 18 Pro is 6.3 inches, iPhone Air 6.5 inches and iPhone 18 Pro Max 6.9 inches. A wallpaper looks equally sharp on each when it is made at that phone's own size.
| Wallpaper size | iPhones | Pixels vs iPhone Air |
|---|---|---|
| 1206 × 2622 | iPhone 18 Pro, 17 Pro, 17, 16 Pro | −54 × −114 |
| 1260 × 2736 | iPhone Air | Exact fit |
| 1290 × 2796 | iPhone 16 Plus, 15 Plus, 15 Pro Max, 14 Pro Max | +30 × +60 |
| 1320 × 2868 | iPhone 18 Pro Max, 17 Pro Max, 16 Pro Max | +60 × +132 |
Using a file made for another iPhone
Because these screens share one shape, a wallpaper made for a neighbouring iPhone fits iPhone Air with almost nothing lost. To fill the screen, a picture has to cover both its width and its height, so whatever hangs over an edge is trimmed. What changes is whether it is shrunk or enlarged:
- Pro Max file, 1320 × 2868: shrunk by about 4.5%, with less than 2 pixels of height trimmed. It stays sharp, because shrinking a picture doesn't soften it the way enlarging does.
- Plus file, 1290 × 2796: shrunk by about 2%, with about 2 pixels trimmed from the width.
- iPhone 18 Pro file, 1206 × 2622: enlarged by about 4.5%, with about 3 pixels trimmed. Enlarging softens fine detail slightly, which shows most in thin lines and small text.
- Universal 4K file, 2160 × 3840: a 16:9 picture, wider in proportion than the screen. Scaled to the screen's height it is 1539 pixels wide, so about 9% is trimmed from each side, roughly 196 pixels of the original on the left and on the right.
- A desktop wallpaper, 3840 × 2160: lying on its side, it shows only about a quarter of its width on iPhone Air, enlarged by 27%. Pick a portrait file instead.
Which size to download
Every iPhone wallpaper on this site is cut to 1260 × 2736 for iPhone Air from its full-resolution original. On any wallpaper page, choose iPhone Air, or browse every wallpaper in the iPhone Air size.
Choose the universal 4K file instead when you want to edit the picture first, or to share it with someone whose iPhone you don't know. It has more than twice as many pixels as the iPhone Air screen, so there is room to crop and reframe.

Picking a wallpaper for iPhone Air
- Keep the top calm. The Dynamic Island sits at the top of the screen, and Apple's design guidelines count it among the hardware features that can cover content. The Lock Screen clock sits near the top too, so sky, soft gradients or empty space there keep the time readable. Our post on keeping the Lock Screen clock readable has five quick checks.
- Put the subject in the middle. The centre of the picture is the part that survives any crop, whether you use the exact file or one made for another iPhone.
- Match your app icons. Home Screen icons can be shown as default, dark, clear or tinted, and Apple's guidelines give matching the wallpaper as one reason to change the look. Dark icons sit naturally on black wallpapers.
- Avoid fine text near the edges. If you might switch between the exact file and the 4K one, keep words and faces away from the left and right edges, where the 4K file loses about 9% on each side.
- Set it as usual. Our guide to setting a wallpaper on iPhone covers each one, including different Lock and Home Screens.
Common questions
What size is an iPhone Air wallpaper?
An iPhone Air wallpaper is 1260 × 2736 pixels in portrait, the exact resolution of its 6.5-inch, 460 ppi screen. A picture at that size fills the screen pixel for pixel, with no zooming.
Can I use an iPhone 18 Pro Max wallpaper on iPhone Air?
Yes. A 1320 × 2868 Pro Max wallpaper has the same shape, so it is shrunk by about 4.5% to fit iPhone Air and loses less than 2 pixels of height. It stays sharp.
Will a 4K wallpaper fit iPhone Air?
A 2160 × 3840 wallpaper fits once it is cropped. It is 16:9, wider in proportion than the iPhone Air screen, so filling the screen trims about 9% from each side while the top and bottom stay whole.
Does iPhone Air have more pixels than iPhone 18 Pro?
Yes. iPhone Air has 1260 × 2736 pixels and iPhone 18 Pro has 1206 × 2622, so iPhone Air has about 9% more in total. iPhone 18 Pro Max has more again, 1320 × 2868.
